THIS ARTICLE IS FOR PROJECT ADMINS ON THE HEAD CONTRACTOR'S TEAM.
If you are a subcontractor and need a location added or changed, the location tree is managed by the head contractor and you cannot edit it yourself. If you require changes please reach out to the General Contractor Directly or lodge a Location Tree Change Ticket via the live chat function:
The location tree is the backbone of your project in Visibuild. Every Visi (inspection, task, issue) sits against a location, and the structure of the tree defines how your data rolls up in trackers, dashboards, and reports. Get it right and the rest of the project flows. Get it wrong and you will be reorganising data for weeks.
Who can edit the Location Tree
Only the head contractor's Project Admin can build and edit the location tree. Partner Admins from other companies (subcontractors, consultants) can navigate the tree and use it, but cannot change its structure.
Editing the tree
To edit the tree once it is published:
Go to Project Setup → Location Tree on the web app.
Click into any node to add a child location, rename it, or move it.
To delete a location, click the three dots next to the location name and select Delete. Note: deleting a location with active Visis on it will prompt you to either move the Visis or archive them first.
Duplicate location
Duplicate locations (along with its sub-locations) by clicking on the Duplicate Icon.
Rearrange location
Hold and drag the arrow to move locations above, below, into or out of other locations in your location tree.
Rename location
Click on the title to rename a location.
Always Publish to Save Changes
Hit Publish once you're satisfied with the changes you've just made.
When to be careful
Editing the location tree mid-project is supported, but a few things are worth knowing before you do it:
Visis already at a location stay there. If you rename a location, the existing Visis update with the new name. If you move a location, the existing Visis move with it.
Bulk-moving Visis between locations is a separate action. Use Bulk Update (Visi list view → select Visis → Bulk Update → Location). See Bulk update, export or archive Visis: https://help.visibuild.com/en/articles/8706627
The tree structure drives the Milestone Tracker columns. If you are mid-way through a project and tracking against milestones, restructuring high-level nodes will reshape your tracker view.
QR codes are tied to locations. If you have printed and posted QR codes onsite, deleting or merging locations will break them. Reprint after structural changes.
Building from a CSV (Faster for Large Project)
For a project with hundreds of locations (e.g. apartment fitout, piling, precast), build the tree in a CSV and submit it for upload:
Download the CSV template from Project Setup → Location Tree → Export CSV.
Build the hierarchy in Excel. Use autofill for repetitive locations.
Submit to your Visibuild Project Coordinator either via email or through the live chat. Turnaround is usually within 24 hours.
If you are unsure how to structure your tree, your Project Coordinator can sense-check the approach before you commit. It is much easier to get the structure right at setup than to restructure later.
